The Adams Rite 8800EL is a narrow-stile rim exit device designed for aluminum storefront doors requiring remote electric latch retraction. Its patented Starwheel bolt interlocks the door to the frame for strong mechanical security while preserving free egress from the pushbar side.

The EL option uses a solenoid-driven latch retraction mechanism for instantaneous unlocking from an access-control system or other approved remote control. The device is configured fail-secure, so loss of power returns the exit device to the latched condition while mechanical egress remains available through the pushbar.

Electrical Requirements

Power supply capacity, wire size, voltage drop and access-control relay design should be verified before installation. Electric latch retraction devices can have higher current requirements than standard electric strikes or readers.

Access Control Applications

The 8800EL is a strong choice for commercial aluminum storefront doors where the opening needs to remain mechanically free for egress while access control remotely retracts the latch for authorized entry. Typical applications include office entrances, schools, clinics, retail spaces, commercial tenant entrances and other high-use aluminum storefront openings.

For access-control installations, the exit device can be coordinated with Brivo or other commercial access-control systems, door-position monitoring, request-to-exit monitoring, power supplies and appropriate exterior trim.

Key Cylinder / Exterior Trim

The required key cylinder depends on the exterior trim function. For a typical pull with mechanical key override, a standard 1-5/32 in. rim cylinder such as the Adams Rite 8736 is commonly used. Lever-trim configurations may instead require a compatible mortise cylinder and Adams Rite cam. Exterior trim and cylinder should be selected based on the exact door function.
